~ HISTORY & VIDEOS ~

~ HISTORY ~

Founded in 1983 by Billy Rowe and Fernie Rod, Jetboy continues to carry the mantle of the glam-punk genre into the 21st century with the same fury that existed 25 years ago. Long recognized as one of the perfectors of the glam genre, Jetboy was one of a handful of acts that got the attention of music fans and record executives alike.

While Hollywood was loaded with musical talent, San Francisco had but one true leader at the time, and that leader was Jetboy. Now a cross-generational powerhouse, Jetboy is experiencing a resurgence in popularity that can only be attributed to their musical relevance. Rock and roll fans the world over are beginning to revisit the music that helped to shape a generation, and is now becoming the soundtrack for their offspring.

Songs like Feel the Shake, Suicide Shakedown, Stomp it Down to the Bricks, and the newly released Folsom Prison Blues have struck a chord with an increasingly more discerning audience. Celebrating their 25th anniversary, the founding members of Jetboy (Billy Rowe, Fernie Rod and Mickey Finn) are dedicated to bringing the party atmosphere back to rock and roll. Having just finished a triumphant reunion tour that saw the band playing major stages like Rocklahoma, The South Texas Rock Fest, and Rock the Bayou, Jetboy is preparing to enter the studio, followed by a major tour in Summer 2009.

Studio Update: Day One

Day 1 - July 11th, 2009
by: Michael Butler

I got the privilege of staying home last night while Billy, Fernie and Doug loaded in the gear and got guitar and drum tones. The studio is called Function 8 and it is right in our neighborhood (the mission). Our engineer is Nathan Harlow. We've known him since the good old rock days in SF. He used to play bass in Maximillion's Motorcycle Club. They were huge in the clubs around 1990. I remember all the girls went nuts over this guy. Since then he's run monitors for about every big band that has come through here.

Today we laid down basic tracks for Perfectly Wrong, Dogs Gotta Roam, Going Down Above The Clouds, High Gear, Crank It Up and Losing Streak. Most tracks were done in no more than 2 takes. We've done these songs so many times now that we can play them in our sleep (I think I have a few nights, ha).

Everything is sounding great so far!

I can tell Billy is excited about this. He's like a little kid geeking out with his guitars and tones. He's tracking basics on a Gretch Jet Firebird, a Greco Les Paul and doing slide on a SG open tuned to A.

I'm playing my 70's Hagstrom Swede. My parts went well and I think I may be done!?
