Hair Metal Mansion correspondent JOE SCHAEFFER checks in with the following;
It’s hard to believe but 2016 marks the 30th Anniversary of Tesla’s superb debut album Mechanical Resonance. The band hasn’t lost a beat. Their latest album entitled “Simplicity” was released in 2014. They have been touring since its release. The band has recently been out with Def Leppard and Styx on a tour of the US.
Tonight’s show was an opportunity to see them perform their full headline show. Tesla concentrated on the early years as their set consisted of the hits and sprinkled in were a few covers as well as a couple of lesser know songs.
Jeff Keith still has his trademark vocal style and the band was in top form. Musically, guitarists Hannon and Rude, bassist Brian Wheat and drummer Troy Luccketta remain tight as ever. The guitar duets of Hannon and Rude simply were amazing, and Luccetta was phenomenal on drums. When Tesla performs, the band gives its all with every performance.
They performed a mini acoustic set which included a stirring rendition of the Led Zeppelin tine “Thank You”
The crowd went nuts for the last few tunes performed. “The Way it Is” and “What You Give” got the crowd singing in unison. “Love Song” then began as Rude and Hannon played the acoustic opening as a duet. The song then kicked-in, and the crowd of concert goers were on their feet for every note. “Little Suzi was next and then the night concluded with an encore of “Modern Day Cowboy”.
The band hits the road with Def Leppard and REO Speedwagon on May 2nd.
